Betts Environment offer a range of services in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and related disciplines such as Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). We undertake full EIAs, assembling experts from experienced colleagues and associates for larger projects, and acting as Team Leader to commission the EIA work, and edit and produce the Environmental Statement. The Practice is a corporate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

Our Science Team are experienced in impact assessment procedures and the production of the Fauna and Flora Chapter of Environmental Statements. In addition to co-ordinating inputs within our own science teams, we are experienced in integrating our work with other environmental disciplines.

Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) may be the work of the formal Fauna and Flora Chapter of EIA or a stand alone procedure to support other forms of environmental assessment or appraisal. In either case, Betts Environment (the Practice was closely involved in the formative years of impact assessment procedural development) follow the principles published by the IEMA and the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM). These embrace scoping, zone of influence, ecological resources and features, biophysical changes, identification, integrity of ecosystems, conservation status within given geographical areas, mitigation & compensation measures, assessments and consequences for decision making, provision for monitoring and non-technical summary.
