Management Plans (Our protocol HCMP) :
Ecosystem Care & Repair
Successful land management and monitoring of land requires a plan. We have developed our protocol for this over many years, based on best practice issued by the statutory bodies. A Nature Conservation Management Plan (NCMP), as we call them, will identify opportunities to create, enhance and/or maintain the different habitats found on a site; it facilitates recognition of well-executed existing practices, adoption of new ideas or revision of existing working methods to maintain and promote biodiversity within the context of the site and its surroundings. A NCMP delivers site-specific objectives for priority habitats and species, and progression is monitored. The NCMP document is written in order to implement nature conservation requirements, statutory regulations and provide compliance with biodiversity policies.
A NCMP, drawn up by Betts Estates, follows a full ecological appraisal of the site. It is then presented with explanatory notes and cost implications. A typical NCMP will be in three parts:
- Site identification with ownership and third party responsibilities established; applicable environmental compliance and best practice details pertinent to the site listed;
- Projects identified to meet the requirements in the first section and a prescription Table drawn up showing targeted actions and dates for work to be undertaken over a suitable period;
- Supporting information and documentation.

Betts Estates are a specialist biodiversity land management operator which undertakes NCMP contracts, thereby providing the implementation service and the regular monitoring works as prescribed under the Plan. Betts Estates regularly review and update NCMPs to ensure compliance with new legislation. Annual certification of ecological best practice and biodiversity compliance is part of our service.
Good environmental stewardship recognizes the need and potential to contribute to wildlife conservation at all landholdings. Inputs by Betts Estates focus on the enhancement of landscapes, habitats and resources for specific species and habitats.
One of the most important elements of the Betts Estates service is to take over all the long term obligations of “green space” land so that developers can move on confidently without a legacy of worrying and costly responsibilities.
