There is a large array of possible survey requirements and we can handle almost all of them, however specialised or obscure. We will discuss your needs and the best approach carefully with you to agree an appropriate protocol, usually containing similar elements to those noted under our mainstream surveys but tailored to the specialist circumstances so that we deliver a suitable and relevant result.

Betts Ecology staff undertake a range of farm and countryside surveys, commonly in a Planning and Management context and the list below represent a few such.

Hedgerow Surveys
Hedgerows play an important role on farms; helping to prevent soil erosion and water run-off, providing shelter, controlling livestock and protecting crops from the wind. They also provide an important habitat for wildlife and are often seen as defining character of the English landscape. Where site development works affect hedgerows, we undertake surveys to the Hedgerow Regulations guideline standards. On occasion, more detailed information is required in respect of a hedgerow's ecological importance and an assessment using the Hedgerow Evaluation and Grading System can be completed.

Farm Stewardship Schemes
Environmental Stewardship is an agri-environment scheme which provides funding to farmers and other land managers in England who deliver effective environmental management on their land. The scheme is intended to build on the recognised success of the Environmental Sensitive Areas scheme and the countryside Stewardship Scheme. Its primary objectives are to:
• Conserve wildlife (biodiversity)
• Maintain and enhance landscape quality and character
• Protect the historic environment and natural resources
• Promote public access and understanding of the countryside
• Natural resource protection

Betts Ecology have trained surveyors to undertake Farm Environmental Plans and Higher Level Stewardship Applications.

Ornithological Surveys & Bird Strike
Identification, population recording, seasonal nesting awareness of birds are all part of Betts Ecology’s regular ecological surveying practice. Bird Strike mitigation works around sensitive sites has been part of our casework for landfill and aero-industry sectors for many years.
