Phase 1 Habitat, Protected Species and Biodiversity Surveys:
A basic Phase 1 Survey (our protocol HAUD3) follows Natural England published procedure and comprises mapping of habitats using standard codes, producing a map from this and adding informative target notes for features of interest.
Much more informative is the extended Phase 1 Survey (protocol HAUD4) which also includes species lists, remarks on biodiversity and an evaluation of nature conservation value (sensu Ratcliffe), identification of protected species or signs of their presence, a written report of results with conclusions and appropriate recommendations for any necessary further investigation or actions.
Detailed studies of legally protected British species (protocol SGEN) are a common requirement, and species-specific surveys for the more widespread protected taxa such as reptiles (SREP, etc.), great crested newt (SGCN), birds (SBDG, etc.), bats (SBTG), badger (SBGR), otter (SWOT), water vole (SWVL) and dormouse (SDMS).
Surveys for other groups such as macro-invertebrates (SFAI, STMI) including freshwater crayfish (SFCF), are also available. A full list can be found here where you can also use our fast response online quote facility. Or just phone, email or fax us.
